When Jon Tehel invited us over to Laura Loriga’s 1st floor apartment in East Hollywood for dinner and to film a song, I had no idea what I’d be walking away with. Or how I’d walk away feeling.

Plates of lasagna and glasses of wine with about 10 others dwindled down to about 5 or 6 of us at midnight. What followed was this recording of *Bend*, one of the most powerful and emotional musical performances I think I’ve ever been witness of.

They’ve chosen to put this under the name Celacanto. After seeing this and the potential and possibilities of these two together, I hope we can see more of that name around in the near future.

It’s tough to come up in a town full of 21+ venues when you’re underage, and Long Beach is full of younger acts. But if you haven’t heard Korey Dane’s identifiable songwriting or his incredibly calming voice, you haven’t been paying enough attention. Korey is easily one of the top singer/songwriters in Long Beach, and, when you see him play in person, it all seems pretty effortless. Amazing.

For the last session at the original headquarters in Long Beach, I asked Korey and partner Tess Shapiro to come on over and record on a Sunday afternoon in March. Thanks to both for turning that into such a great session!

To end the year for Anchortapes, I really wanted to record a session with The Fling. And what better way to do it than inviting a bunch of friends in the neighborhood over to participate in the session and, ultimately, get a little drunk.

So, the day before we recorded, I hit up Dustin and Graham Lovelis to see if they’d be down to do it, and sure enough, 24 hours later, I had a house party on my hands with a lot of mics set up in my living room.

As you’ll see in these versions of *Strangers* and *Elinor*, though, everyone had a great time, and The Fling sounded as great as they always do. Even if we all were a little drunk.

Thanks to the homies Sayer Danforth and Chad Huff for helping film. And to my girl Rhonda Anjelly for shooting the fujifilm for the session.

And with Jeff’s odd, yet intriguing songwriting, I couldn’t really argue that any location wasn’t perfect. With Orlando and Erick Nieto backing him up, the Fluff Fold session with O’s and the Oculist went better than any of us could have planned — zero conflict, barely any patrons, and an odd backing sound of change jingling, clothes turning, and dryer doors shutting.
